How to nurture a robot?

Inadequate variety of personalities for communication robots may cause unnatural interaction with them and reduce the sense of attachment. We propose the C 2 AT 2 HUB engine, where communication robots are characterized based on long-term interaction with users. In C 2 AT 2 HUB, robots’ characterization is assessed by the following two factors; “interpersonal affect” and “emotions.” The transition of the factors is adjusted by the history of users’ actions to robots in order to characterize the robots gradually. Through experimentation, our system proved the characterization of robots to be natural and that it improves the user impression of robots.

Social Care Robot : Understanding the subtleties of feeling and atmosphere

Presented at ORF (Open Research Forum) 2017

In the coming generations where robots are constantly connected to a network, various functions can be applied to these robots. Examples can be communication between the machines (M2M), communication for services (M2S), and ubiquitous service devices. We call these robots Sociable Robots. We create a system in which the robot is aware of the surrounding context when interacting with humans. We look upon awareness of the users’ state through facial expressions.

Ex-Amp Robot: Expressive Robotic Avatar with Multimodal Emotion Detection to Enhance Communication of Users with Motor Disabilities : Ai Kashii, Kazunori Takashio and Hideyuki Tokuda, 26th IEEE International Symposium on Robot and Human Interactive Communication (RO-MAN 2017), Aug to Sept, 2017.

In current society, there are numerous robots made for various purposes, including manufacturing, cleaning, therapy, and customer service. Other robots are used for enhancing H2H communication. In this research, we proposed a robotic system which detects the user’s emotions and enacts them on a humanoid robot. By using this robotic avatar, users with motor disabilities are able to extend their methods of communication, as a physical form of expression will be added to the conversation.
